PSA - Final Project

The final project is a group assignment to make a Public Service Announcement- PSA - on a topic of our choosing. My group and I have decided to talk about caffeine & it's effects - positive and negative.

In this post are some rough storyboards/thumbnails and a script. The upcoming posts will contain an animatic, final movie and shot break down.

Caffeine Addiction PSA
SCENE 01:
CHRISTIAN is working at a desk in one of the Otis classrooms. As we his working he slowly begins to doze off into sleep.  He lies his head down and closes his eyes just to rest for a minute but ends up falling asleep.
END SCENE.

SCENE 02:
In CHRISTIAN’S dream – watercolor washed area and a floating fridge in the distance.
Christian begins walking to the fridge.
VO (KYRA):
So what is caffeine? Caffeine is and energy stimulant that is consumed by 80% of the population. When completely absorbed by the body – in about 30-40 minutes – the caffeine creates and energizing feeling. But this burst of energy only lasts for about 3 hours.

CHRISTIAN opens the door to the fridge and looks inside. Inside one the shelves he sees a cup of coffee, a cup of tea, and a canned energy drink.
VO (KYRA):
Caffeine is found in numerous products, but is most commonly found in coffee, tea, and energy drinks.  These products contain an average of X amount of caffeine, and if consumed too often caffeine can cause very negative side effects.
In a close up of CHRISTIAN we see mini Christians pop up and sitting on his shoulders acting out the effects of caffeine.
VO (KYRA):
For example if you were to consume 400mg of caffeine 3 times a day for a week, your natural sleeping patterns will be severely threatened. At that point, you can build a tolerance to caffeine and would need to drink more to get that same feeling of energy as your first drink.

The mini-Christians start to loose their buzz and become groggy, cranky, and tired.
VO (KYRA):
Once the caffeine buzz is gone, most are left feeling more tired than before and are left with a headache or in a depressed mood. The more often caffeine is consumed the more powerful the side effects become.
Christian is slightly frightened by these facts and disturbed by the cranky mini-Christians. He slams the door to the fridge.
END SCENE.

SCENE 03:
CHRISTIAN is startled awake by his dream.  KYRA (the narrator in the dream) walks up from off frame and stands next to CHRISTIAN.
KYRA:
There are negative consequences to drinking too much caffeine – but if taken in moderation it can be a useful pick-me-up.
 END SCENE.
